Volunteering and charitable donations
In 2015 our total charitable contribution was over £1.9m*
Our charity partners
Our people voted for our charity partners:
- Place2Be in the UK
- ARC Cancer Support Centres in Ireland
- Hilfe für krebskranke Kinder Frankfurt (Help for children with cancer) in Germany
- Let's Get Ready in the USA
- Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children in Hong Kong
We build relationships with our charity partners, supporting them and providing opportunities for our people to contribute and raise funds.
Helping our local communities really contributes to the positive impact our business makes on society and is a long-established part of our company's culture. We have a volunteering policy which allows our people to take three paid days leave a year to volunteer. Our people contributed 661 volunteer days in 2015 beating our target of 500 days.
Our people have, so far, contributed 1,400 volunteer days in 2016; beating our target of 1,000 days.
We have a variety of ways in which our people can get involved in their communities, from a few hours of volunteering to secondments to charities. We look at ways we can use our business skills and knowledge to benefit the local community. It's also a great chance for our people to gain from new experiences that can help them grow their careers.
"The Yard were fortunate to work closely with the Standard Life Branding team to develop our new strapline 'We believe in Adventures'. Being a small charity we don't have the specialist skills within our team in this area, so it was great to benefit from Standard Life's team's expertise"
Jenny MacDonald - Head of Fundraising - The Yard
"Over 2016, around 90 Standard Life employees volunteered at Harmeny School, which provides residential education to children with complex social emotional behavioural needs as a result of early-years trauma. The volunteers worked outdoors, regardless of the weather, helping us meet the demanding workload involved in managing such a large estate. Thanks to the hard work of the Standard Life volunteers, Harmeny's grounds continue to provide a safe and therapeutic environment for some of Scotland's most vulnerable children."
Elaine Bailey - Fundraising Consultant - Harmeny School
Give as you earn and SLOTTO
Our people can donate directly from their monthly salary to our charity partners by playing our SLOTTO lottery game or through our Give As You Earn (GAYE) scheme. Our GAYE scheme also gives our people the option to donate to charities of their choosing. In 2015, they donated over £300,000.
Raise and match
We run a fundraising scheme called Raise and Match to support our people's community fundraising. They can raise funds for charities that are close to their heart - and we'll match any amount between £100 and £250 a year per employee. If our people raise funds for our elected charity partners we will match the full amount. Our Raise and Match total for 2015 was over £90,000.
We offer printing services and donate our surplus IT equipment and furniture to charities in need. For more information, please contact us.
*this total is made up of - time given to the community, Raise and match, Standard Life Charitable Trust and Fund, donation of equipment and services and our employability scheme funding
