 What if I don't see a suitable job match just now, but would like to be considered for future roles?

Register on our Careers page and set up job alerts for the roles that you’re interested in. We often search our candidate database for suitable candidates so please add as much detail as possible to help us match you to a role.

 I'm about to leave school – what's available for me?

We offer opportunities for local school leavers on our Careers page.

Once you've applied

 Can I update my CV or other details?

Yes, just log into your profile where you can update your details and upload a new CV.

 Will I get feedback on my application?

We don’t offer feedback at the application stage. If you didn’t get the job after interview, you can ask for feedback then.


 What should I expect at the interview?

Most interviews are conducted with two interviewers, usually the hiring manager and a colleague. You’ll find more information about interviews in the recruitment process section.

 What happens if I'm on holiday?

Where possible we’ll try to reschedule your interview.

 I didn't save a copy of the job advert - how can I get a copy?

Call 0131 245 1000 and ask us to send you a copy.

If we make you an offer

 How long do I have before making a decision?

We’ll ask you to return your signed acceptance within five working days.

 Once I’ve received my offer, should I immediately resign from my current role?

This very much depends on you. You should be aware that our first offer is conditional on you passing our pre-employment checks. Once these are complete we send a final unconditional offer. If you have any doubt about your references, financial probity or criminality checks then you should not resign until these checks are complete. If you’re sure that these checks will be clear then you should resign whenever suits you.

 How long will it take before I receive my contract?

We aim to get your contract to you within 48 hours of offering you the role.

Pre-employment checks

 How long does it take to carry out pre-employment checks?

Up to 14 working days. When all checks are complete we’ll arrange a suitable start date.

 I already work for Standard Life, do I need to go through pre-employment checks?

To protect our customers, everyone who works in financial services needs to go through the same checks. If your last check was less than six months old, you won’t need to go through the checks.

 What happens if my pre-employment checks are unsatisfactory?

We might withdraw our offer of employment. This is decided on an individual basis.
