Standard Life Charitable Trust

Standard Life Charitable Trust (SLCT) is an independent charity established by Standard Life in 2009.

At first, SLCT will help people most in need of support to develop the skills they need to manage their finances. SLCT will initially focus on the following groups: young people, lone parents, young offenders and the Armed Forces.

The Trust aims to support initiatives and programmes that make lasting and sustainable changes.

17 May 2011 – a message from Baroness McDonagh, Chairman of the Trust.

I am pleased to announce the first donations to be made from the Trust in 2011.

The Royal British Legion

We are working with the Royal British Legion to develop and deliver a new strategy that aims to improve financial capability within the Armed Forces. The donation will support the development of a long-term programme of education and training for personnel who would benefit from such support.

Shelter

The Trust will make a donation to Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity to fund three telephone advisers. Shelter offer advice and support via its helpline, website and national network of services. This service is available to anyone who is at risk of losing their home, many of whom because they are experiencing severe financial problems. The helpline is a vital part of the services Shelter offers.

Grand Central Savings

Grand Central Savings is a Scottish Charity that offers financial services to people who are socially and financially excluded, providing access to banking facilities and offering advice and assistance to people who cannot access or benefit from mainstream banking. The charity currently has branches in Glasgow and Greenock, Inverclyde. The donation from the Trust will help Grand Central Savings continue to expand its vital services through its core operations and current branch network and support the development of a new branch in Aberdeen planned to open in 2011.

Looking forward

Looking forward in 2011, we will continue our work supporting the Royal British Legion on its long term financial capability strategy. We will also continue our development work to support projects that help people most in need make a positive and permanent change to their lives.
