Responsible investment
We adhere to common standards of responsible investment such as the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI). And we encourage the companies we invest in to adopt best practice in their management of environmental, social and governance issues.
2010 highlights

We believe in managing our business responsibly. We reduce and manage risk within our investment portfolios. We invest responsibly and with integrity. And we use our influence to encourage best practice in the companies we invest in and our suppliers.
Standard Life Investments actively supports the principles of good stewardship set out in the Financial Reporting Council's UK Stewardship Code of July 2010.
We take our responsibilities as a long-term investor very seriously and we build active and constructive relationships with those companies we invest in on behalf of clients. We believe it’s mutually beneficial for companies and long-term investors, like Standard Life, to have relationships based on accountability. We are also committed to communicating openly and clearly with our clients, so we seek dialogue and listen to what they want to know about the companies in their portfolios. This feedback shapes our approach.
