There's more to working life than coming home with a good salary. Being part of Standard Life means we expect high performance, that's why we make our working environments places where you are involved, supported and challenged.
We have a new employee wealth and benefits platform, Lifelens. It's a great way to let employees manage their benefits, save and invest. It gives each employee a single, personalised view of all their benefits - and a snapshot of why Standard Life is a great place to work. Above all, it makes managing your own benefits package at Standard Life easy and flexible.
Competitive salary and benefits package
As a market leader, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package to suit your needs.
We'll review your salary annually, and add a performance related bonus based on how well the company does, and how much you contribute to that success. The package includes generous annual leave, a pension as well as many other benefits. The list below gives an idea of what is available - the full package is explained to you at your induction session.
|
Graduate master classes
We know that for you to reach your full potential, you will need to gain a good understanding of the business and how the company operates. That's why, roughly once a month we invite a speaker from an area of the business you might not know or someone working on a key project to give a short presentation to all graduates, followed by lunch. These sessions will help you develop your knowledge of our whole business, not just the area you work in.
Professional qualifications
If you study for professional qualifications through us, we will support you however we can. This can include paying for exams, giving you time off for study leave, tutorials or support from a mentor who has already completed the qualification. All you have to do is hit the books
Recognition
There are special recognition events taking place throughout the year that you may be nominated for by colleagues or managers to recognise your contribution to Standard Life or to team and volunteer activities out-with work. For example, The Chairman's Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding efforts of our people in their communities. There are seven award categories, which include: Volunteering Individual Award Volunteering Team Award Building a Sustainable Business Exceptional Customer Service Winners receive an award and a £1,000 donation to their charity or community group. One runner-up and one highly commended nominee for each category will receive a framed certificate and a £500 donation to their charity or community group. In 2011, we received 116 nominations across seven award categories and all of the nominations were of excellent quality and very inspirational. Some of our graduates were amongst those nominated this year for their outstanding efforts organising the Standard Life 10k run.
Pension
As you'd expect from a leading financial services provider, our Group Flexible Retirement Plan is one of the best around. The company makes a 9% monthly contribution into the plan on your behalf - this is set up for you. You can choose to make no payments from your salary and still benefit from our contributions of 9%. If you chose to make additional contributions you will make savings on tax and national insurance. You have complete freedom and control over how the payments are invested, and you can pay additional lump sums into this at any time (subject to Inland Revenue maximum limits and the plan's minimum limits). With this generous pension scheme you can feel confident that you are planning well for your retirement. If you chose to make additional contributions you will make savings on tax and national insurance.
Charity partners and casual Friday
Each year our employees are asked to help select charity partners. For 2011, the two charities we are supporting projects with are Cancer Research UK and Alzheimer Scotland. Also each Friday is Casual Dress Friday and we all enjoy coming into work in our casual clothes. It's great - but did you know that Casual Dress Friday is also a way of every member of staff raising funds for our Charity Partners by donating a small fee?
Team challenge
We encourage staff to build team skills through taking on a challenge at a local community group or charity. There are lots of good causes and the tasks have ranged from painting railings and clearing playgrounds to running a Marie Curie charity shop for the day. It's all about helping people in need and at the same time providing a team-building opportunity for employees.
Volunteering
We consider ourselves to be good corporate citizens and as such believe that we in turn should encourage our employees to be involved in the communities that they work and live in. In Standard Life we promote volunteering to our employees both on an individual basis and in teams. For us, volunteering is when you offer your services of your own free will, at no charge. We offer paid time off of up to one hour per week, provided you do as much again in your own time.
VIVO
VIVO is the Standard Life employee representative body in the UK (excluding Standard Life Investments). We're here to represent your views and ensure there is open communication through all levels of the company. VIVO means 'to sustain and support': we believe people are the life blood of any company and chose the name to reflect this. We believe in the value of people. We are committed to improving the working environment by representing the collective aspirations of employees on a range of issues that affect them.
Sports and social clubs
Here are some of the sports and social clubs that we have here at Standard Life, all set up and run by employees. It's a good way to get involved and meet some great people. If you fancy trying your hand at softball, want to go and see films with discounted tickets or you are a budding photographer; there could be something right up your street here:
